On Tuesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. donated P520 million to the government’s specialty hospitals to fund more medical projects for Filipinos. The Philippine Heart Center (PHC), Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP), and National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), all founded by the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, are among the hospitals benefiting from this funding.

The President handed over the donation during the inauguration of the Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service Center (Bucas), a new health facility designed to provide urgent care services throughout the week. Speaking at the PHC in Quezon City, Marcos emphasized that Bucas is not just a building but represents a new approach to managing critical health moments. “Today, we are transforming how we handle those moments when time is both our greatest enemy and most valuable ally,” he said.

Bucas aims to bridge the gap between primary care facilities and higher-level hospitals by offering urgent care services, minor surgeries, and other medical support. Marcos assured that services will be available all week long, including weekends, allowing patients with special needs to receive timely care while still accommodating those with less severe cases.

As of September 2024, there are 31 Bucas Centers across the country. The President highlighted that these centers represent more than just facilities or funding, but a commitment to delivering care wherever and whenever it is needed. “This is about replacing uncertainty with reassurance, about changing lives and restoring hope,” he concluded.
