Aprobado ng House of Representatives ang 10 Years Passport Validity

On the third and final reading, the House of Representatives approved to make the Passport to 10 years validity.

President Rodrigo Duterte urged Congress during Monday’s State of the Nation Address to amend the possibility of extending a passport’s validity to ten years from the current five years. Duterte also raised the idea to lawmakers of extending passport’s validity up to 30 years. “Tutal kayo naman ang gagawa ng batas, you are the ones who will pass the law, even if you extend it good for 30 years, okay ako. Bahala kayo, basta stretch it a little bit, because five years is simply short,”

House Bill No. 4767, a consolidation of 22 bills on the matter, got the House’s nod, 216-0-0.

Under the bill, the validity will be extended to 10 years for adults, or those 18 years old and above.

Among the measure’s principal authors is former president and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who now sits as a deputy speaker.
